Compilations

Our friends from the Sao Paulo based collective Si No Puedo Bailar just released this compilation where artists from all over Latin America pay tribute to great Brazillian singer-songwriter Adriana Calcanhotto. We were invited by Rodrigo Maceira to take one of her songs and make it our own. We went with “Sudoeste” and had a lot of fun recording and reimagining her song. A lot of other good friends appear in this compilation such as Mima who is also from Puerto Rico. You can download the compilation for free over at http://www.naomoromais.com (to find the link just keep scrolling to the right!) and if you are lucky and live in / or visit Brazil you may get the vinyl version of the album for free at one of their shows.

Club Fonograma just recently released their 10th compilation of the Fonogramáticos series and it’s a very special one! Bands from all over Latin America and Spain covering each other. We fell in love with Pau y Sus Amigos’ “Fiesta Permanente” upon first listen and decided that this was a great chance to show them how much we liked their song. So we did! A lot of other great artists appear in this compilation and you can download it for free!

Also our song “Camila” has been reaching new ears and getting reviews. We are very happy that this song in particular is spreading out more as we feel it synthesizes the sound that we want to capture and that better defines the group as of now. The good people over at Life: Aquatic, International Tapes, Rocktantra, and Flashlight Tag had some beautiful words about the song and we can’t be more happy. And as a bonus Club Fonograma included the song in their Halloween Mixtape.

And to finalize, we got two more reviews of Memoria Textil courtesy of Colombia’s “El Amarillo” and Iowa’s “Their Bated Breath“. Thanks to both sites for taking their time and reviewing the mini-album!

PS. Our sister ambient chamber ensemble Arturo en el Barco released a new EP. Get it at Bandcamp for free.

You can also find Camila on this awesome compilation “Fonogramáticos Vol. 5″ by Club Fonograma. Download it, you won’t be disappointed. They also did a pretty nice review of the song.

MTV Brazil also wrote about the song and picked it as one of the best songs of 2009. Wepa!

BONUS: Download “Un Pequeño Tema” from the Balún vault over at 8bitcollective. This is a song that we never thought would never leave our hard disk. Turns out we were wrong.

Also we’ll be back in PR! Show in January 2010! Our first show in San Juan in a looong time.

Oh yeah follow us on twitter. We tweet more than we blog. www.twitter.com/baluntweet

Happy holidays!

We have our song “Minumina” in the newest MP3-compilation by the Mexican label At At Records. This album includes other shoegazer/electronic bands from Spain and Latin America such as Fax, Silvania, Resplandor, and Antiguo Automata Mexicano. This production is dedicated to Cocó Cielo, member of shoegazer/ambient band Silvania and electro-pop band Cielo, who died tragically in Spain a few months ago.

The compilation can be downloaded for free here: http://www.atat-records.com/mem

And also, a few months ago we did a remix for Miou Miou, an indie pop band from the Czech Republic and the album is out! Other remixers include B. Fleischmann (Morr Music), Sawako (12k), Lullatone (Plop), and Montag (Carpark). For now the CD/MP3 can be bought at Sinko Digital but in a few months it will be available on iTunes and in Japan under the Rallye Label. Check out our remix in our Myspace player!
